Our Family

Donation policy

After careful examination, Our Family has made the difficult decision to make some significant changes to our policies regarding accepting donated items.

Shifting needs and changes in funding have challenged us to look at better, more efficient ways of using our resources – not only as an organization but as a community. We are fortunate to have a number of nonprofit partners in Tucson who specialize in managing donated food and used clothing, furniture, small appliances and other household goods, and who offer these things to people in need at no or very low-cost.
Our Family’s resources can be better put to use by investing in the things we do best – emergency shelter and housing, support for lonely elders, effective resolution to conflict, and strengthening at-risk children and families in crisis.

We no longer accept donations of clothing!

If you have items to give to charity, we encourage you to support one of our community partners (see list below)– we’re all working for the common good!

We will also no longer accept used bedding, pillows, towels, or mattresses due to ongoing concerns about bedbugs and other health cautions, as well as lack of storage space. We can absolutely use your donations of new bedding, however!

We are committed to seeking alternate, less costly ways to ensure our clients have what they need to be stable and self-sufficient. One of the most effective ways to do so is by providing gift cards that allow the people we help to purchase exactly what they need, from food, to medical supplies, to clothing for their children. We accept gift cards to local grocery stores, Target, Walmart, and Walgreens throughout the year, and we hope you will consider putting a few dollars on a gift card to help a person or family in need the next time you’re in one of these stores.

Our programs and the people we serve have long benefited from the community’s generosity through donated clothing, household and personal items. Please accept our deepest thanks for your valuable donations over the years.
